Who can bring a pet?
This route is for a personal dog or cat whose importer can apply through Thailand’s Animal Quarantine Station for the chosen port. The DLD reviews the disease status of the exporting country before it sets the permit conditions. Confirm the exact airport or seaport and pet purpose before beginning.
Microchip
Keep the microchip number on the pet’s veterinary and export records and ask the receiving Animal Quarantine Station to confirm the required identification standard. The public DLD process page does not publish a single pet-specific chip specification for every route.
Rabies vaccination
Do not use a generic vaccine checklist. Thailand’s DLD permit carries the health requirements for the source country and animal. Ask for the written Indonesia-specific conditions, including rabies vaccine product, dose timing, booster validity and any other vaccine requirements.
Rabies titre test
The public DLD import process does not state one universal titre rule for every pet source country. A titre may appear in the route’s permit conditions. Get the permit first and follow its exact laboratory, threshold and sampling dates.
Import permit
Submit the live-animal import request (Form R.1/1) to the Animal Quarantine Station at least seven days before import. DLD reviews the source-country disease status and issues an import permit with requirements. Send those requirements to Indonesia’s competent authority so the official certificate matches them.
Government documents
The DLD describes an English official health certificate issued by the competent veterinary authority in the exporting country, matching the permit conditions. Keep the permit, identity and vaccine records, lab reports required by that permit, and the airway bill or passenger itinerary together. Separately, when a pet actually leaves Indonesia, Barantin asks the sender to report the export through PTK Online and provide destination-required veterinary documents, vaccination records and, for dogs and cats, a protective rabies titre result. The pet is then presented at a designated exit point for quarantine inspection; an Animal Health Certificate is issued if requirements are met. If the final export is from a third country, use that country’s export certificate instead.
Quarantine and arrival inspection
DLD’s general live-animal information describes quarantine and sampling after arrival, but the exact pet arrangement must be confirmed with the Animal Quarantine Station and written route conditions. Ask whether a pet is exempt, needs observation or must enter an approved facility before the flight is booked.
Airline requirements
Coordinate the arrival date with the Animal Quarantine Station at least three days in advance. Ask the airline whether the pet must be booked as cargo, whether the route permits live-animal transit and which entry station can clear the animal.
Travel crate
The carrier must accept the pet and crate for the full itinerary. Use a secure, ventilated live-animal crate that gives the pet room to stand, turn and lie naturally. Check aircraft dimensions, climate restrictions and transfer handling with each airline.
Timeline
The DLD application is due at least seven days before import and the arrival date must be confirmed at least three days ahead. These are only regulatory minimum notices; obtaining the permit conditions, completing any tests or treatments, securing the Indonesian certificate and finding an accepted flight can take longer.
Cost factors
Plan for the DLD application and inspection fees, veterinary preparation, laboratory work if required, official export certificate, freight, crate, terminal handling and any quarantine or testing ordered on arrival. DLD says fees and measures follow the permit and applicable rules; request the current amounts from the chosen station.
Frequently asked questions
How early must the Thailand import request be filed?
DLD says the live-animal import request should be submitted at least seven days before import. Confirm the current submission channel and port with the Animal Quarantine Station.
Does Thailand require a 30-day quarantine for a pet?
Do not assume that from general live-animal guidance. Ask the station to confirm whether the route-specific permit requires quarantine, observation or testing for your pet.
When do I send the flight details?
DLD’s process says to confirm the exact arrival date with the Animal Quarantine Station at least three days in advance. Align this with the permit and airline booking.
